Smile for the camera! It’s #ThrowbackThursday time! We are fortunate to have so many historic photos of Clinton, and we owe that to its most famous photographer, Bernie H. Shinlever. Bernie bought his first camera in 1900 from a Sears & Roebuck catalog. He moved from the country to the “big city” in 1904, opening Clinton Art Studio on Market Street in 1904. He retired from photography in 1957. He captured iconic people, structures, and moments in Clinton history, even snapping nighttime pics of the big 1908 fire that leveled Market Street.
