The elegant Dutch Colonial home of Carl Stephen Kincaid (1889-1963) & Shollie Cross Kincaid (1888-1936) was completed in 1932, designed by Barber-McMurry in 1926. The formal gardens were revered for the rare collection of boxwoods and the iconic gazebo, built from stone from the construction of Norris Dam. Mr. Kincaid began working at Magnet Knitting Mills in 1906-07 and rose through the highest ranks, eventually becoming president. Upon his death, it was said that “Clinton lost a real friend…as such few towns have been fortunate enough to claim.” Similarly, when Mrs. Kincaid died, the local paper said “her life had touched the lives of others in every part of the community….a good mother, a perfect hostess, and the gentlest of spirits.” Mr. Kincaid later married Patricia Richardson Kincaid (1919-1994). The home was sold to Dr. William & Janice Hicks in 1969.
