This property was purchased in 1922 by Citizens Motor Company from J.R. Ross. Clyde W. Peak (1882-1962) and Thomas “T.L.” Seeber (1897-1991) operated the dealership, expanding around 1928 to Main Street, across from the courthouse square. Seeber also served as the elected judge for Anderson County 1942-1950 and was mayor of Clinton 1957-1960. This structure was remodeled in 1926, with the new front built by Butcher and Maire. A store room was added and car storage space increased. In the 1960’s, the building housed the famous Hammer’s Department Store.
