Gone but not forgotten. On this #ThrowbackThursday, we remember Clinton’s legendary Park Hotel that graced the corner of today’s Market and Cullom Streets. When the 1908 fire destroyed the wooden Southern Hotel located on this corner, owner Samuel Leath had a new 30-room brick hotel underway within weeks. Upon opening, the 1908 newspaper described the hotel as a “model of beauty in architecture and conveniences.” The first floor was home to parlors, family rooms, the dining room, kitchen, and shops, including a tonsorial parlor (barber). The second floor was made up entirely of sleeping rooms, each with “steam heat, electric lights, and immaculate white walls.” Clinton lost the hotel to “urban renewal” in the late 1960’s.
