In the weeks following Market Street’s “big fire” of 1908, new brick buildings were built at a rapid pace. This building, built by R. Rutherford, and it’s “twin” on the corner, built by C.J. Sawyer, were completed and occupied before the end of 1908. The brickwork was completed by Crippen & Co. and the woodwork by T.H. Leinart Co. Mr. Rutherford opened a furniture store, also offering carpets and house furnishings. The building has been home to the Clinton Furniture Company, The Coffee Mill Restaurant, and Parker Jewelry & Furniture Co.
