The Clinton Post Office has had many homes over the years, including the historic Leinart Co. building on Market Street and the Taylor & Son building on Main Street. In 1937, Mrs. Cora Medaris’ home on Main Street was purchased and removed, and the cornerstone was set for a new Colonial brick and limestone post office building. The specifications of the building filled a book that was said to be two inches thick and included details down to the type of grass to be sown on the lawn. Built at a cost of $70,000, it was adorned with marble walls, terrazzo floors, a cast aluminum eagle & gilded bronze letters over the main entrance, and a wooden cupola. Ethelbert Crozier Cross was postmaster in Clinton at this time; Henry Morgantheau, Jr., Secretary of the U.S. Treasury; and James A. Farley, Postmaster General. The Post Office was dedicated and opened in 1938.
